Sequencing

Sequencing is used to the majority of genetic diagnostic testing. It can be used to decode all three billion base pairs in a human genome but testing is usually limited to sequencing single genes, which can reveal the presence of a mutation that might result in a disease or other disorder. Companies such as Illumina, Applied Biosystems, and Complete Genomics have developed new technologies for sequencing samples of DNA. (text 6)
